Meeting with the Lawyers in Myanmar Bar
Sri Lanka Women Lawyers' Association met the delegates of Myanmar Bar Association at Hilton Colombo Residencies on 22nd March 2016. At this meeting, members of both countries shared common interests of the legal profession, particularly with regard to women.
The President of the Association,Mrs. Berney Alwis addressed them about the procedure adopted to form our Association, its membership and the motto, vision & mission of the Association etc.. and she explained to them that our Association is a national, voluntary, legal and professional organization devoted to promoting the interests and progress of women lawyers in Sri Lanka and their legal rights and that it serves as an educational forum and an active voice for the concerns of women in the legal profession.
Among other speakers at this session were Ms. Pramuditha Senaratne, Vice President who explained about "Laws relating to Domestic Violence" and "Laws relating to Child Protection in Sri Lanka" and Ms. Ridmika Dep, Former President,who delivered a lecture on Labour Laws & Regulations applicable to Employed Women in Sri Lanka.
The President of Myanmar Bar Association addressed the gathering and shared their issues of women lawyers with us and were very eager to form a Women Lawyers' Association in Myanmar in the near future.
