Seminar on "Sexual Harassment of women in Sri Lanka"
SLWLA organized a seminar on "Sexual Harassment of women in Sri Lanka" on the 26th of September 2020 at the OPA Auditorium. Professor Jeewa Niriella of Department of Public & International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Mrs. Shyamali Ranaraja, Attorney-at-Law, Visiting Lecturer of Department of Law of the University of Preadeniya, SSP Mrs. Bimshani Jasin Arachchi – Director of the Bureau for Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women of Police and Mrs. Berney Alwis - Senior Attorney-at-Law, Past President of SLWLA were the Resource Persons.
The eminent Resource Persons spoke on "An academic's view point on sexual harassment of women in Sri Lanka", "Sexual Harassment of women in Sri Lanka in the context of International Conventions & Standards", "Role of Police in preventing Sexual Harassment of Women & Issues encountered in enforcing the Law" and "The burden of proof in terms of sexual harassment cases" respectively. The Panel Discussion was moderated by Mrs. BerneyAlwis. Women Police Officers attached to the Desks of the Children and Women's Bureau of the Police from Western Province, Lawyers and members of the Civil Society Organisations participated in the seminar.
